Workshop on Open Source Software for Library Automation

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in collaboration with Assam Don Bosco University is organising "Workshop on Open Source Software for Library Automation" from the 23 – 25 January, 2017 at Assam Don Bosco University, Azara campus. The workshop will highlight the application of open source software in libraries and provide hands-on training to the library and information science professionals of the North-Eastern states of India.


Objectives of the workshop are:

  1. To equip the participants with knowledge of the software KOHA.
  2. To exchange appropriate skills, information, and experience on KOHA.
  3. To update professionals and academic community about content management.
  4. To develop an expertise by providing a thorough training, tutorial, demonstration and hands-on practice on open source software (OSS) and its application in the libraries.

About The Workshop

The Open Source Software has taken the computing world by storm. Its contribution to every scientific field is enormous and library and information science field is no exception. In fact, in many a case Open Source Software (OSS) is superior to commercial equivalents. The purpose of the three-day workshop is to impart practical knowledge to participants on the use of open source tools in libraries. The open source software Koha that deals with library management will be introduced and taught with hands-on practice. The workshop will also include lectures by experts to widen the knowledge in related topics of digital libraries and tools to build and manage digital collections. The workshop will look at strengthening libraries in North East India through capacity building in cutting edge areas of library automation and digital collection management.

This training programme is limited to twenty participants who should be Library & Information Science qualified professionals (either working in libraries or teaching Library & Information Science) of North Eastern States of India.

Travel Allowance

TA will be provided to all the participants by providing the original ticket proof. (II AC Train/Bus). Those travel by air will be reimbursed by II AC train fare only.
