Department Profile
The Department of Botany, one of the newly established departments of Assam Don Bosco University came into picture in the month of July, 2019 under the School of Life Sciences. The department started its first batch with thirteen students in Under Graduate programme and thirty seven in Post Graduate Programme. The department hopes to introduce PhD programme very soon in the course curriculum in the near future.
The faculty members of the Department are up-to-date in their respective fields and dedicated towards their work. The faculty members are specialized in diverse fields of plant science right from plant tissue culture and plant genetic engineering to plant molecular biology and microbiology. The Department of Botany is equipped with basic instrumentation facilities and has plans to bring in sophisticated state-of-the-art instruments in the coming years. This department also aims at making the students understand every minute detail of plants and their existence. The syllabi basically deals right from the study of fungi, algae, to higher order plants including gymnosperms and angiosperms, plant genetics, plant biotechnology, plant physiology, taxonomy, ecology etc. The main target of the department has always been to make the students realize the importance of plants and strengthen their knowledge towards biodiversity conservation for the betterment of the society at large.
